Expensive. Cognition is the only 50x-class reading in the sector; everything else in the same period sits at 27-37x. On 9/8 the company announced a $48 billion valuation with over $2 billion raised, without stating pre- or post-money, about 53x; the earlier price, reported by Bloomberg as the single source and not yet closed, was about $47 billion.
The mainstream treats Cognition's price as the sector's new anchor. The diary holds that 52x is a single observation in the whole sector and that the round had not closed when it set the anchor; both 'annualized revenue' and 'run-rate' are unaudited, and Cognition has never disclosed GAAP revenue, gross margin or net retention.
Cursor: 29x at its 2025-11 Series D; the SpaceX 8-K records consideration of $60 billion in all stock, closed 2026-08-14, and the roughly 30x is an estimate on a conservative $2 billion revenue assumption. Lovable 27x (TechCrunch 2026-08-12 Series C, run-rate basis). Replit 37x (2026-03 Series D; revenue from secondary trackers, error about ±20%, so really a 31-47x range).
For founders: do not anchor on a single round's reported price; 52x is one observation in the whole sector. For investors: compute M&A multiples from the acquirer's 8-K consideration terms paired with disclosed target revenue; if the filing has no target revenue, treat the multiple as nonexistent.
